New Year's Eve Urbino

Urbino may be a really surprising tourist destination, especially in periods less frequented, such as the Christmas and the New Year holidays.
In addition to the artistic beauties, which are rooted in the Renaissance period, Urbino boasts a truly breathtaking landscape: the city, in fact, it is situated in between the Metauro valley and the Foglia valley.
The Urbino origins are ancient, going back even to the prehistoric period.
But, the most significant part in the Urbino history is attributable to the period of the Lordship of Montefeltro domain, whose maximum exponent was the Duke Federico. It is not a case, in fact, if the maximum splendour period of the city was precisely in the years of the Duke domination, who raised the city both artistically and culturally. After the Montefeltro family the city saw the domination of the Della Rovere Lordship, in 1500.

Let's begin our visit of the city from the cathedral: its neoclassical style is the result of various restructurings that took place over the years.
Attach to the cathedral we can visit the Cathedral Museum, which conserves frescoes dating back to 1300.
Among the religious buildings, it worths a visit to the Gothic Saint Domenico church, a very particular building, situated in the beautiful Renaissance square.
In the square we can admire a fabulous Egyptian obelisk, brought here by the Roman colonies in 1737.
However, the most famous monument in Urbino is without a doubt the Ducal Palace, a beautiful Renaissance building dating back to 1465, wanted by the Duke Federico.
Within the Ducal Palace we can visit the National Gallery of the Marche region, which houses some of the major art works of the world: from Federico Barocci, a famous local painter, up to the Raphael frescoes, Tiziano and Piero Della Francesca.
Finally, we visit the particular Corso Garibaldi street, which owes its beauty to the porch that is long all through its lenght, and that ends with the Pincio, a wonderful public garden that boasts a breathtaking panorama!
