New Year's Eve Trapani
Trapani is a small centre which is located in the western part of Sicily, wet by the Mediterranean Sea.
The legend says that Trapani was built by the Elimi on the ruins of a mythical city; the true thing is that its origins are ancient and that, like all the Sicilian cities, it has suffered several dominations, among which the Arab and the Norman ones.
Since ancient times the town had much luck thanks to the sea trade and still today Trapani can count on an important commercial seaport.
We start our visit of the city from the St. Lorenzo cathedral, the most important church of the city also for the art works kept inside, including an art work of the Flemish painter Van Dyck.
Other very important art works are kept within the Sanctuary and of the Annunziata convent, dating back to 1240 circa; the Annunziata convent also hosts the Peopoli Regional Museum.
There are many historic buildings to admire in the city, such as the Posta Palace, a beautiful building in liberty style built in 1924, or the Cavarretta Palace, the Senate headquarter, XVth century but radically restructured in 1600, or, finally, the Alessandro di Ferro Palace.
Very interesting is also the old walls and bastione that surround the city, they were built in the Reinessance period to protect the city.
