2011 New Year’s Eve Rome
Which best destiation would be than the “Eternal city” to celebrate a New Year’s Eve really unforgettable?!!
This city is capable of surprising in every corner: but let's begin our visit to the city in the beautiful Piazza Venezia, centre and union point of the main streets of Rome.
From here begins the suggestive Fori Imperiali road, which brings us to the monument that has become the symbol of Rome, namely the Flavio amphitheatre, better known as the Colosseum.
This building, started by Vespasian and inaugurated by Tito, once upon a time was the home of shows as of the fights among the gladiators and the wild beasts. Continuing on this road we can visit the mythical Colle Oppio, which is the Villa that Nero built after the fire in 64.
Always from Venezia Sq. it begins the Corso street: from here we can visit Condotti street with its expensive shops, Spagna Sq. and the Monti Trinity, the Montecitorio and the Borghese Palaces.
Right in Venezia Sq. we can admire the Vittoriano Complex, built among 1885 and 1911 and dedicated to the first King of Italy.
In 1925 was then built the Homeland Altar, where we can visit the statue of Rome, the Milite unknown tomb and the equestrian statue of Vittorio Emanuele II.
In the square we find the Capitol, a religious centre and a necropolis of the ancient city: in the Capitol Sq. we can admire the equestrian statue of Marco Aurelio, while in the Capitoline Museums is housed, among other things, the famous She-wolf Capitoline, symbol of Rome.
Still, we visit Navona Sq., decorated with the popular Bernini art works; in its vicinity we can admire the Pantheon, a roman temple dedicated to all gods and, the Lungotevere, the famous S. Angelo Castle.
Still, to visit is the Trevi fountain, a Baroque style work, attributed to Nicolò Salvi.
Finally, how not mentioning the real symbol of the Eternal City, also known as the San Pietro Basilica, that each year is visited by more than one million people from all over the world.
Do not miss a visit to the Sistine Chapel, where you can admire the famous "universal judgement" fresco by Michelangelo, the Palaces and the Vatican Museums, within the Vatican City.
