New Year's Eve Potenza
If you are in the Basento valley and you are looking for a bit of movement for your New Year, then the only destination is Potenza!
This small town has very old origins, which date back to the Roman period but other dominations that left a sign were those of the Normans and the French.
Today, the economy of the city is primarily based on the food industries; Potenza is very famous for its lively production of footwear.
As usual, let's begin our visit of the city from the cathedral, dedicated to the Saint patron of the city, St. Gerard, dating to the XIIth century.
Always dedicated to the saint is the St. Gerard Edicola, a small temple dating back to XIXth century inside which you can admire the Patron statue.
Very interesting is also the Malvaccaro Roman Villa: this wonderful building in the Potenza historical centre houses fantastic old mosaics.
Still, the Guevara tower, namely what remains of a medieval castle, once upon a time belonged to the Guevara family.
Finally, we can visit the “Dinu Adamesteanu” Archaeological National Museum of the Basilicata region: the museum is very recent, and in fact it was inaugurated in 2005.
Among the Loffredo Palace rooms, where the Museum is located, we can admire the various archaeological finds that tell us the history of this small town.
