New Year's Eve Pesaro
Although it is usually a summer destination, famous for its beautiful beaches wet by the Adriatic sea, the town of Pesaro could be the ideal destination even for a break in the Christmas and New Year period.
Pesaro is a very surprising town, also known as the city of the 4 Ms, namely Music (here was born the composer Gioacchino Rossini), Mare (sea), Mountains and Majolica.
In fact Pesaro, in addition to overlook the sea, is surrounded by two important Mountains, namely the San Bartolo Mount and the Ardizio Mount.
Its origins are ancient: the Romans used to call it the Pisarum when they conquered it in 184 B.C..
This city path is very long: in 500 circa, it was destroyed by the Vitige barbarians, and then was conquered and rebuilt by the Byzantines.
In the Renaissance period followed one after another the Malatesta and the Visconti domains, but it was thanks to the Della Rovere that the city became famous for its industry of the artistic majolica.
Let's begin our visit of the city from its centre, namely the beautiful Popolo Square: what dominates this square, is the wonderful Ducal Palace, from the Renaissance period: the Palace was built in the XVth century by Alessandro Sforza, but it was enlarged by the Della Rovere.
Adjacent to the Ducal Palace, we find the Gioacchino Rossini birthplace.
In the square we can admire the wonderful Tritons fountain and the Marini Horses. Another buioding worthy of a visit is the Costanza fortress, an imposing building wanted by Costanzo Sforza: in 1474, when it was built, the fortress was a military structure, then it became a prison in the subsequent years.
Many are the museums to visit in the city: we can start by the Oliveriana library, housed within the Americi building, dating back to 1600.
Always within this building we can also visit the Oliveriani museum, which holds many finds from the excavations of the Novilara di Pesaro necropolis, in addition to old finds, belonging to the Romans, the Greeks and the Etruscans.
To also visit also the Civic Museums, which include te Art Gallery and the Ceramics Museum, the most important in Italy: here you can admie many prestigious Baroque and Renaissance ceramics.
