New Year's Eve Pavia

Pavia is different from the other cities of the Lombardia region as its development is not based on the trade and industrial areas, but purely on the tourism and on the business that comes from it.
It is precisely for this, despite the climate made of cold winters and summers very warm, Pavia is the right goal for your holidays, especially in winter: spending the New Year here can be a unique experience!
To be sure, you know how to occupy your time if you pass a weekend here: in fact, the city of Pavia is rich in monuments, that talk to us about its long and important historic past.
As usual we start our visit from the Duomo (cathedral), with origins of the 500 but completed only towards the end of the 800; the Pavia Duomo is very famous because of its octagonal dome which is the third greatest dome of Italy, after those of Saint Peter in Rome and the Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.
In addition to the cathedral, there are plenty of churches in Pavia: for example there is the San Michele Maggiore church, in Romanesque style; very similar to this is the famous San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro church, where are conserved the relics of Saint Augustine.
Finally, you can visit the beautiful Visconti castle, surrounded by the park that once upon a time arrived until the Certosa of Pavia: the castle is very old and, in fact, it was built in 1350 circa by Gian Galeazzo Visconti.
But let’s turn to the food advices: if you want to eat in one of the restaurants of the historical centre, we recommend the Osteria del Naviglio which combines a traditional cuisine and a home-cooked one to a selection of wines really wide, worthy of the best wine cellars of the zone.
Many are also the premises in which you can spend an enjoyful and different evening: among the most attended by the people of the place, we cannot forget the Trenobar, entirely done in an epoch train and with a large garden, or the Sirlifford, where you can listen to excellent live music, or even the Parranda disco, whose name means "which" and it could not be more successful!
