New Year's Eve Palermo
Palermo is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, and it is also full of young people and night distractions: for this it could be an ideal destination, even if unusual, for your New Year holidays!
Visiting the city we can’t help ourselves to note the different architectural styles that set it apart, and that are the clear track of the many influences and dominations that Palermo has lived in the course of centuries.
But let’s start our visit of the city from the Assunta cathedral, dating back to the XIIth century, built in Neoclassical style and then many times restored: in its inside are kept the tombs of the Norman emperors and the saint patron of the city sacred relics, namely Saint Rosalia.
Among the other religious buildings we recommend a visit to the St. Giovanni of the Heremits church, even this of the XIIth century: this building is the most living witness of the Arab domination in Palermo.
Still, how not to mention the Martorana, the St. Maria of the Admiral church, which has Norman mosaics dating back at the Norman period.
Among the historic buildings we recommend a visit to the Norman Palace, also known as the Royal Palace: today in its inside there are the Sicily Region offices. But, more important, is the Palatine Chapel, kept within the Normans Palace and an examplary monument of the Arabic-Norman art.
Finally, a visit to the Sicily National Gallery, situated within the Abatellis Palace, and just a walk in the famous Favorita park, once upon a time hunting reserve of the King Ferdinand IV.
