New Year's Eve Oristano
The landscape around Oristano becomes really impressive, especially in the winter period, precisely for Christmas and New Year.
The city is in a plain, called the Campidano, a few kilometers far from the Oristano Gulf: very characteristic precisely for the presence of the boundless beaches and the rocky mountains, such as the Monteferru cliffs.
Then, in addition to the presence of volcanic rocks, in the territory are very frequent phenomenon thermal baths.
The Aristanis origins were very ancient, even if the development of the city will be only in the XIIth century, thanks to the merchant ships that Oristano began to have with Pisa and Genoa.
In the XVth century, the city passes under the Aragons, but the darkest period in Oristano was under the Spanish the domain.
We start our visit of the city from the St. Maria Assunta Cathedral, built in 1228 by Lombard artists.
The characteristic of this building is the bell tower, dating back to 1400.
Another religious building worthy of note is the St. Francesco church, the original building dates back to 1250: the church was destroyed in the XIXth century and rebuilt by Gaetano Cima.
To also visit the Arcivescovile Palace, in part reconstructed at the beginning of the 1900: this beautiful palace is located in Manno square.
Another interesting square is the Eleonora square, dedicated to the heroin who handed in to Oristano the "Carta de Logu", and a meeting point of the people of the place.
Finally, you can visit the Mariano II tower, built in the XIIIth century and the only part that remained intact of the walls of the city.
