New Year's Eve Milan

Milan, the main town of the Lombardia region, is a city with many resources and with its many trendies, it is able to offer a funny and lively New Year's Eve!

The city of Milan, modern and very active in the economic life of the country, can be considered one of the few Italian metropolis.
With the rivers and the various streams (the famous Navigli) that wash this flat area, the city is characterised by a continental climate, with cold winters and very humid and sultry summers.
The history of Milan is very long and fascinating: for example, it was precisely here that was issued the Decree of Constantine, in 313, which allowed the freedom of worship for the Christians.
In the subsequent years, the city lost its position of power, in favour of Pavia and it was Carlo Magno who rose the role and the commercial and economic importance of the city.
Subsequently, Milan saw the domination of various dynasties: from the Visconti to the Sforza, up to Ludovico il Moro.
And yet the Spanish domination, a black period in the history of the city, which in addition of being impoverished because of the taxes and of the duties imposed by the Spanish, it also lived two strong epidemics of plague.
Milan had a period of great growth and economic and cultural development around the 1760, with the kingdom of the empress Maria Teresa d’Austria: in this period many important buildings in Milan were built.
After the discontent led by Napoleon, the citiziens of Milan rose and, in 1848, after the famous “5 days of Milan”, managed to free the city from the Austrians to be then attached, in 1861, to the Kingdom of Italy.
Today Milan can be considered the true economic and financial capital of Italy and also the fashion, style and wealth city.
But let’s start our visit of the city from the Duomo Square, that’s the city centre: here you can admire the beautiful Duomo (cathedral) of Milan, then stroll through the streets full of all kind of shops and always crowded by the shopping lovers.
More precisely, in the vicinità of the Duomo Sq. there are: the famous Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, S. Babila Sq., the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, the Palazzo Reale (royal palace), the Duomo Museum, the famous theatre La Scala, the Pirelli skyscraper and the Gallery of Modern Art.
Always in this area there are one of the most important historical buildings of Milan such as Cà Granda.
This building, built in 1456 by the will of Francesco Sforza, was for many years the Maggiore hospital and, since 1958, has hosted the University of Milan.
To not miss if you visit MIlan is the famous Sforzesco Castle in which it is possible to visit the Civic Museums.
A historic buildingof great importance, dating back to the fascism period, is the monumental Central Station.
Finally, what deserve to be mentioned is the Tower, located in the Velasca square: it was built around 1960 and was considered one of the most important works of the post war period.
Always in 1960 was created parco Nord (north park), realized in 1975: it is a big green area, certainly the most beautiful of the city, which it extends over 600 hectares in the north area of Milan.
