New Year's Eve Isernia
If you are in Molise and you are looking for a bit of movement for the New Year evening, then your goal is Isernia!
The town boasts very ancient origins, which date back even at the Palaeolithic, with a great development, however, only with the Roman domain, from 263 B. C.: from that time Isernia became a city.
Despite this long history, the city of Isernia is especially famous for its natural beauties, because it is in the heart of the green region of Molise.
Only in recent years, however, the town is trying to focus on its historical and natural heritage: in fact, until now, the major resource of the place has been the industry, especially the agricultural one.
Let's begin our visit of the city from the Isernia cathedral, built in the XIVth century, above what has remained of a church destroyed by a violent earthquake.
Among the aristocratic building, we can admire the beautiful San Francesco Palace, an imposing building in Gothic style and today used as Town Hall.
Then, we can take some photos to the enormous Fraterna fountain: this fountain was built in the XIVth century in honour of the Pope Celestine V.
Finally, we can visit the Santa Maria of the Nuns Museum: here we can admire a series of finds and historic objects, which tell the history and life of the ancient Isernia.
For what concerns the natural beauties, which this area is rich of, we can begin our visit from the Pentria, a set of mountains and valleys that take their name from one of the Samnites tribes who lived this area.
A few kilometres far from here we find the Pesche Natural Reserve, with a 552 hectares pinewood.
Finally, in Foce town, in the vicinità of Isernia, we can admire the beautiful Trigno waterfall, 60 metres high.
