New Year's Eve Frosinone
The Frosinone town organises, each year, wonderful fireworks that illuminate the New Year night.
The city has a small medieval nucleus, which is on the hill that overlooks the beautiful Cosa Valley, which, together with the Simbruini, the Ernici and the Meta mountains to north, and the Aurunci and the Ausoni mountains to the south, it dominates the wonderful Frosinone panorama.
We start our visit of the city from the beautiful Libertà square: here we can admire two important monuments, namely the Prefecture Palace and the monument to the heroes of the Italian Risorgiment.
In the Garibaldi square, instead, we find the Porta Romana (Roman Door), the ancient access to the town.
Among the religious buildings the most important is perhaps the Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, in the Romanesque style but it has been restored many times.
In the immediate vicinity of the cathedral there is, then, the St. Benedetto church, 1134.
Along what once upon a time was called the "Vicolo dei boia", we come to the Santa Elisabetta church.
Very interesting, from the historical point of view, is the Quadrato bell tower, in Romanesque style although reconstructed in 1700.
Still, we can visit the fascinating amphitheatre, of which only a few ruins are remained.
In the charming Gramsci Square, it stands out the Provincial Palace, 1933.
Finally, you must visit the Municipal Archaeological Museum, which is based in a small building of the historical centre: the three conference halls host respectively the Prehistory and the Protohistory, the Archaic Age,the Roman age.
