New Year's Eve Foggia
Those who don’t particularly love the cold and rigid winters, can think of a New Year’s Eve holiday in a city such as Foggia, which boasts a Mediterranean climate, made of warm summers and tempered winters.
The city has ancient origins: the first centre was built by the Norman Roberto the Guiscardo, but then Foggia saw various dominations, among which there were the Angevins, the Aragoneses, the Bourbons and Napoleon.
Through the various dominations, and also through particularly difficult periods, such as those during which Foggia was completely destroyed by several earthquakes, the city has always maintained its role as an important historical-social and economic reference point.
Let's begin our visit of the city by the beautiful St. Tommaso Cathedral, an enchanting building in Romanesque style: very interesting the precious Byzantine table that you can admire inside the church, the table known as "Vetere Icon", represents the image of the Madonna, protector of the city.
Very interesting is the St. Tommaso Church, in very Baroque style: this Church, in the historical centre, was the first monument in Foggia, around which was then built the city centre.
Still, go to the Civic Museum, in which you can admire, amazing archaeological finds, also a great Art Gallery.
Finally, how cannot visit one of the history and economic symbols of the city: we are talking about the huge wheat tanks that are still nowadays shown in the Croci square or in the Piano delle Fosse.
