New Year's Eve Ferrara
If you think about "Emilia-Romagna' you think about the "Fun", and then the most suitable goal for your New Year’s Eve it may be, even if it is not one of the major city of this region, for example Ferrara?!
The most florid historical period that the city knew, corresponds to the years of the Este domination, with which Ferrara knew an important expansion and saw the construction of many noble palace buildings that still today you can admire in all their splendor.
Although the various ups and downs of the city during the time, today Ferrara is a very lively and active location, artistically and culturally: many events take place in this city, such as concerts, exhibitions and theatrical seasons.
It is not a case, therefore, that Ferrara is mainly focused on the tourism market, which has lived strong boom after 1995, the year in which the city was inserted in the UNESCO list of the humanity heritage.
Needless to say, therefore, that the city of Ferrara has a lot to offer to its visitors: in particular, the historical centre is fascinating and deserves to be explored in every corner.
In the town centre there is the wonderful Este Castle, the first stage of our visit the city: the castle, built in the XIVth century and then restructured in the XVIth, its structure is very particular, because of its four towers and a typical ditch that rendered it impregnable.
Then, among the beautiful palaces of the historic centre (the most of which host a museum), they deserve a visit the Diamanti Palace, 1492, and the Schifanoia Palace, wanted by Alberto Este XIVth century.
The Diamanti Palace is famous for its bizarre facade that looks like a "Diamond", as well as for the National Art Gallery that is inside it, where you can admire the paintings of some of the major artists of Ferrara.
About the Schifanoia Palace we remember the famous Salone dei Mesi room: the frescoes that the adorn were painted by famous artists from Ferrara and it includes a tribute to the Borso d’Este government, in addition to the months of the year and the corresponding Zodiac signs.
Still, we can visit the Ludovico Ariosto’s house: here the famous writer spent some years and there died, in 1533.
Finally, we visit the St. Giorgio cathedral, patron of the city: the cathedral, dating back to the XIth century, originally had decorations in Gothic style, mostly replaced by beautiful Baroque decorations.
Finally, how can’t forget the fantastic cuisine: in the heart of the old Jewish Ghetto of Ferrara you can taste dishes belonging to the most authentic Romagna tradition of the Osteria del Ghetto.
The strongest dishes of the restaurant are, in addition to the classics Ferrara cappellacci stuffed with the pumpkin, to all the meat dishes: beef fillet, but also wild boar, duck, pheasant, and finally, the dishes made with Porcini mushrooms here are really insuperable!
After dinner, then, you can go to one of the many discos of Ferrara and around it: among the most crowded there are the Arlecchino, the Zoo Animal Sound and the Madame House Fashion.
