New Year's Eve Pescara

Campobasso is a very interesting city in the Christmas and New Year period, when it fills of craft and antiques markets.
Very evocative is the surrounding landscape: in fact Campobasso is situated the basin of the Biferno river, in a territory surrounded by the Matese and the Sannio mountains.
The city has ancient origins but uncertain: certainly for a period saw the Longobard domain, to then pass, until the XIIIth century, under the Bojano counts, and after the Monforte, who wanted the wonderful castle.
Very flourishing was also the period of the Aragons and of the Bourbon.

Today Campobasso houses one of the most important universities of the centre of Italy.
Finally, it is very famous for the blades and the art of the sword work, as well as for the excellent olive oil and other typical products.

We start our visit of the city from the many religious buildings that the city hosts. First of all the cathedral, a magnificent building dating back to 1500 and in a Neoclassical style was reconstructed, in response to an earthquake, in 1700.
To visit also the St. Antonio Abate church, in late Renaissance style outside and Baroque style inside, it dates back to 1572.
Still, the St. Leonardo church, XIIIth century, the St. Bartolomeo church of the XIVth century, and the St. Giorgio church of the XIIth century in a fantastic Gothic style.
However, the real strong piece of the city is without a doubt the Manforte castle, dating back to 1459 and wanted by the Cola count: this imposing construction dominates all the city, thanks to its mighty walls and the high towers.
It’s on the highest tower that there is the meteorological Military Aeronautics station.

Finally, in the beautiful Victory Square we can visit the Museum of the Crib: inside are kept many old cribs, dating back even to the XVIIIth century.
