New Year's Eve Bologna
The New Year in Bologna is a very particular and emotional experience: in fact, here it is still in use to burn, in the main square, a huge straw doll, the symbol of the old year that has just finished.
Furthermore, Bologna is a beautiful and lively city and full of young people from all over Italy: in fact, the city hosts one ofthe most famous University, which was the first in Europe and established in XIst century.
The beautiful city of Bologna is also active in the economic and the industrial sector: one of the most developed is without a doubt the car industry and, precisely here there are two important headquartes, the Ducati and the Lamborghini.
It doesn’t surprise that each year the city hosts the Motor Show, a very important international exhibition dedicated to the world of cars and motorcycles: this event attracts each year many, many people from all over Italy and Europe.
But let’s start our visit of the city from the heart of the historical center, namely Piazza Maggiore: this beautiful square is surrounded by some of the main buildings of the city.
Among these we would like to remember the Municipal Palace, inside which we can visit the Morandi Museum, with the famous art works that the painter gave to the city; the Podestà Palace, dated back to XIIth century, this wonderful building is charcterized by the Arengo Tower and the Voltone del Podestà presence, namely a porch where there are the four Bologna patrons statues (St. Petronio, St. Procolo, St. Domenico and St. Francesco); the Re Enzo Palace, built in 1200, takes the name from the Federico II’s son from Svevia and inside it, there is the citiziens archive, and the Carroccio, a majestic float that during the war carried the city insignia; and finally the St. Petronio basilica, dated back to XIVth century, today it hosts art works of very important Italian painters.
Finally, how not to mention the wonderful Neptune of Giambologna fountain, dating back to the XVIth century.
Other important Italian artists art works that you can admire are in the National Art Gallery, one of the most important museums in Italy.
Finally, we finish our visit of the city with one of the symbols of Bologna, i.e. the two towers: the Garisenda tower, high 48.16 meters, and of the most famous, the Asinelli tower, height 97.20 metres.
