New Year Barcelona

Barcelona, a beautiful Spanish city which overlooks the sea, is the second city of Spain, but the first in Catalonia: the culture and traditions are Catalan, jealously preserved and handed down, starting with the language.
At the same time, Barcelona is a city which keeps up with the times, very cosmopolitan and culturally active and lively, besides being one of the most important economic centres of the country.
The economic progress that Barcelona has had in the recent decades, has made it possible that besides the historical treasures, mostly in Gothic style, have arisen buildings and modern facilities,  which do not clash with the beautiful architectural landscape of the city, indeed, they fit perfectly with the historical Catalan beauties.
And it is precisely from the Old City that we begin the visit: here you will find the Barri Gotic, namely the Gothic Quarter, on which on the highest point stands out the beautiful cathedral, only completed in the XIXth century.
In the vicinity of the Cathedral is located the Palau Reial Maior: this is a different building, once upon a time the Inquisition building and of the Aragon sovereign and the Castile.
Other Barcelona area, than it cannot not be visited, is the famous Ramblas: five avenues that form one road and that after more than a kilometer, they end at the Cristoforo Colombo monument, a few steps from the sea: this area is the heart of Barcelona, both day and night.
Another imperative visit is this the nice Barceloneta, the old fishermen quarter.
Still to see: the Vila Olímpica, a recovered area for the Olympic games in 1992; the Eixample, an area built in 1854 where there are some interesting buildings designed by modernista architects, such as the 150 houses of the “Squared Gold” and the wonderful Gaudì buildings.
About Gaudì, how not to mention the Sagrada Familia, one of the symbols of Barcelona: this building, begun in 1882 and never finished, dominates the view across the whole city.
This is only a tiny taste of what the city of Barcelona can offer to its tourists!
