New Year's Eve Avellino
In the middle of important communication roads, Avellino is surrounded by a natural area also very interesting, which includes the Campano Appennines, the Picentini mountains, the Partenio and the Montevergine mountains.
The city, which boasts Roman origins dating back even to 265 B.C., its economy is mainly based on certain industry areas: very important are the paper mills, the railways and the wool process.
With regards to the farming industry, then, one of the most famous products of this area are the hazelnuts from Avellino.
We start our visit of the city from the cathedral, built in the XIIth century in honour of the Assunta.
Despite the earthquake that destroyed the cathedral in 1980, it is still perfectly preserved thanks to the great restoration works, and it still preserves ancient works in its inside.
Other building, that did not escape from the earthquake, but that was promptly restructured, is the beautiful cathedral, in a Neoclassical style, dating back to the XIIth century.
To visit also is the beautiful Montevergine Sanctuary.
With regards to the museums, visit the Abbey Museum, and the Irpino Provincial Museum, which is located within the Palace of Culture.
This museum is divided in two sectors, namely the Modern Art and the Archeology.
However, one of the symbols of Avellino is the Clock Tower: this is very high buildind that reaches 40 meters, built in 1600 in Baroque style.
There is also the Tre Cannoli fountain, whose appearance today dates back to the years of the Caracciolo domination, and they restructured it thanks to Cosimo Fanzago from Bergamo.
