New Year's Eve Ancona

Ancona, a calm and little eventful city, becomes a lively centre for the Christmas and New Year period!
Important port in the shade of the Monte Conero promontory, Ancona was founded by the Greeks, and it saw then the Roman dominion, the Byzantine one, to then become one of the Maritime Republics, a confirmation of its importance as a port city, particularly for the trade to the Balkans: still the port is one of the point of reference of the economy of the city.
The city of Ancona is very easy to visit, as it is divided in two separate parts: the more modern area is developed on the coast, while the historic centre is located on the Monte Guasco.
We start our visit of the city from a very important monument, namely the Saint Ciriaco cathedral, the Saint patron of the city.
Where, just right now there is the cathedral, once upon a time stood the acropolis of the city, recognizable by some ruins conserved until today.
The particularity of this cathedral, and its great beauty, is in its facade completely in white and pink marble.
Another religious building very interesting is the St. Maria della Piazza church, built in the XIth century in Romanesque style.
To absolutely visit also the Mole Vanvitelliana, an imposing military building of the XVIIIth century, by Vanvitelli.
Among the oldest monuments, we recommend a visit to thef Trajan Arch, dating back to 115.
Still, interesting is the Muse theatre, went completely destroyed under the bombardments of the World War II, but recently reconstructed in contemporary style.
Finally, the museums lovers, can visit the Archaeological National Museum of the Marche region, where you can admire finds and works of the various populations that have inhabited in this territory (Piceni, Greeks and Romans).
